How it rates on Amazon.com (November 28, 2009), and a personal impression..
Ratings distribution keeps being somewhat bipolar - [9,4,2,8,2] (that's 9 five star ratings and 8 two star ratings)
I guess that simply means you'll either love or hate this camera :)

Personally - I have just received mine a couple of days ago, so far I only have good things to say about it.

Image quality: very good, indoors and out, day and night

Response time: very good

24mm wide angle (one of the main reasons for buying this particular model): you won't hear me complaining...

How it rates on Amazon.com (Sept. 13, 2009)...
I could not help reporting what I've just seen (and was quite surprised to see actually) at Amazon.com just today. The SD980 IS receives not-so-flattering user ratings. The six ratings are almost exactly evenly distributed from one to five stars (two reviewers gave two stars ratings).
As I said before, I really didn't expect to see the SD980 getting such low ratings. I'll keep following and update here.
